Hamburger steaks with onion gravy

🛒 What You’ll Need

For the Steaks:

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 is best for juiciness!) 🥩
  • 1/4 cup Breadcrumbs 🍞
  • 1 Large egg 🥚
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce ✨
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder & onion powder 🧂
  • Salt & Black Pepper to taste 🧂

For the Rich Onion Gravy:

  • 2 large Yellow onions, thinly sliced 🧅
  • 2 cups Beef broth 🍲
  • 2 tbsp Butter 🧈
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour 🌾
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce ✨

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Shape the Steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, seasonings, and Worcestershire sauce. Shape into 4 oval patties. 🥩👐
  2. The Sear: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. They don’t need to be fully cooked yet! Remove and set aside. 🍳🔥
  3. Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and cook for about 8–10 minutes until they are soft, golden-brown, and caramelized. 🧅🧈✨
  4. Make the Roux: Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for 1–2 minutes to cook out the floury taste. 🌪️🌾
  5. Simmer the Gravy: Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, whisking constantly to keep it smooth. Let it bubble and thicken. 🍲📈
  6. Combine: Place the seared steaks back into the gravy. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 5–7 minutes until the steaks are cooked through and the gravy is glossy. ⏲️🎯
  7. Serve: Ladle plenty of that delicious onion gravy over the steaks and enjoy! 🍽️🤤

🔥 Pro Tips:

  • Don’t Overwork the Meat: Mix the beef just until combined to keep the steaks tender. Over-mixing makes them tough! 🥩🚫
  • Extra Flavor: For a deeper gravy flavor, add a splash of red wine or a teaspoon of Dijon mustard to the sauce. 🍷🍯
