Smothered Hamburger Steak
🛒 What You’ll Need
- 1.5 lbs Ground beef (80/20 is best for flavor!) 🥩✨
- 1 Large onion, thinly sliced 🧅
- ½ cup Breadcrumbs 🍞
- 1 Large egg 🥚
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 🍶
- 1 tsp Garlic powder & 1 tsp Onion powder 🧄✨
- 3 cups Beef broth 🥣
- 3 tbsp All-purpose flour 🌾
- 3 tbsp Butter or oil 🧈🫒
- Salt & Black pepper to taste 🧂🖤
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prep the Patties: In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. 🥣🌪️
- Shape & Season: Form into 4-6 oval patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper. 🥩📐
- The Perfect Sear: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until beautifully browned. Remove and set aside (they don’t need to be fully cooked yet!). 🍳🔥🤎
- Sauté the Onions: In the same pan, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and cook until they are soft and golden brown. 🧅🧈🥄
- Make the Gravy: Sprinkle flour over the onions and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the beef broth, scraping up all those delicious brown bits from the bottom of the pan! 🥣🌪️✨
- The Big Smother: Place the patties back into the gravy. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the meat is cooked through as seen in the photo! ⏲️📈🤤
